Robert Oppenheimer, who had opposed development of the hydrogen bomb, a project Strauss strongly advocated. His term as AEC chairman ended in June, 1958, and President Dwight D. Eisenhower appointed him (Nov., 1958) Secretary of Commerce. Strauss held this office until June, 1959, when the Senate, in a close vote, refused to confirm the appointment. Reflection Paper - 1201 Words

Before this class began I was a simple writer who hated having to type an essay. Many class essays that I have wrote in the past resulted in poor scores and no personality. I didn’t have much help on what exactly to write about. As a result of that I have struggled to find creative topics to write about my essay. At the beginning of this class we wrote the Definition essay. I wrote about what makes a sports movie truly great. This essay was a real grind for me. I had a difficult time trying to think of what I wanted to write the essay about and how to make it interesting. I was able to find 10 sports movies that I thought were really good or really bad, but when I went to write my essay I used the same four movies for all three†¦show more content†¦This resulted in me creating a long story that contained many sensory details and was able to get a good grade on it. If I could change anything about the essay, I would add even more sensory details and would also add more vocabulary words. The career and college research essay was the essay I was most interested in. Going into this essay I was fascinated by the career path of a CTO. Profoundly interested in the subject, I did countless hours of research to find out what exactly a CTO is. This essay stood a huge challenge when it came to the personal narrative. Finding a creative idea about what to base my narrative off of became problematic. Time was running low on the essay due date and I had to choose something to write my essay about. At this point my choices were limited and I wrote about my first baseball tryout. This essay was my least favorite one I wrote. When I go over the writing it was not the essay I was most proud of but it did meet all requirements. From the last essay I learned that sensory details are a great way to progress an essay. I learned that sometimes you won’t be able to find inspiration for your essay, but you still need to fight through it and produce a writing piece that meets requi rements. With little guidance from grownups, adolescents have had to discover for themselves that the ubiquitous sexual messages must be tempered with caution and responsibility. Traditionally, it’s been the role of parents to convey the messages about love and intimacy that kids seem to be missing in their education about sex. For years, psychologists and sociologists have warned about a new generation gap, one created not so much by different morals and social outlook as by career-driven parents, the economic necessity of two incomes leaving parent little time for talks with their children. While exploration and experimentation are a natural part of the development, someone usually older, will somehow unintentionally or intentionally encouraging adolescent to become interested in sex. It need not encourage promiscuity, but properly taught can encourage abstinence till marriage. Age-appropriate science based education should be taught to young kids. If sex education is going to be effective it needs to include opportunities for young people to develop skills, as it can be hard for them to act the basis of only having information. Starting from the primary group, adolescents can easily have one-to-one discussions with their parents or careers which focus on specific issues, questions or concerns at home. Sex education at home also tends to take place over a long time, and involve lots of short interactions between parents and children.
